Syal Sahib , as he was fondly called ;was a great versatile poet. Popular as “Brij Keh Shayyar “ in his friends and fraternity , he was an amalgamation of literary strength and artistic demeanor.

Settled in Agra  after retirement , a home to language& culture and being close to Delhi this great poet’s words kept his “Kalam “ alive for his fans and the poet fraternity .

His poems ( Nazms) cover every aspect of life( Khayaal) .Being a master of languages with a keen insight into life ;he wove words like silk and rhythm like water . Hindi , English ,Urdu and Persian ….he was an exponent of all.

Writing was his life ! His poem’s flow and tempo is unique , narrative is interwoven into beautiful words,….Satire is poignant, romance is expressive ..weaving human interface like a tapestry ; moving from a Qasida…….towards even an Elegy…..

Syal’s hold over the genre of poetry is vast from Lyrical to narrative and even dramatic !

He has  experimented with intriguing & sensitive subjects like “Mazdoori “ & “Garibi Hateyen “.

“ Gautam ki wapisi “ , another of his poems ,is an elegant form of poetry  on the  return  of “Lord GautamaBuddha “ in the modern times . Its charm bowls one over !

“ Barood ka Sargam “ …is a famous collection of poems for the unsung , lost soldiers who have sacrificedtheir  lives  for our motherland .These poems are his tribute as a soldier, of 36 plus years ( pre & post independence) , for those gave  up their today for our tomorrow .

Its inspirational  for the youth and  was published in 1995 ,post approval from the Army . 

Brijender Syal and his  work is showcased in “Nazm aaur Khayyal “.…a small effort by us ,his daughters tobring forth the saga of this talented “ Shyyar”.
